The exam rarely asks "what is a permission set?" It's more likely to ask something like: "A company wants Sales reps to see all Opportunities in their region but edit only their own — which combination of OWD, role hierarchy, and sharing rules achieves this?" That requires you to actually reason through a security design, not recall a definition.
The fix: practice designing solutions to scenarios, not just memorizing feature lists. Set up a free Developer org and actually build out multi-department security models — don't just read about them.
A Realistic Study Plan
- Weeks 1-3: Data model and security model — the two most heavily tested, most foundational areas. Build, don't just read.
- Weeks 4-5: Automation (Flow Builder, approval processes) and data management (import tools, dedupe).
- Week 6: Sales/Service Cloud essentials, reports & dashboards.
- Weeks 7-8: Timed practice exams — review every wrong answer until the reasoning makes sense, not just the correct choice.
- Week 9: Light review and the real exam.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Studying features in isolation instead of how they interact (e.g., how OWDs, roles and sharing rules combine)
- Skipping hands-on practice in favor of only reading/watching content
